Demetrius Haley Arrest: What Did He Do?
Records show on January 26 morning, Demetrius got arrested and booked into the Shelby County Jail in Memphis, but in the afternoon, he posted a $350,000 bond and was released.
Earlier in a 2016 lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for Western Tennessee against him for involvement in the beating of an inmate named Cordarlrius Sledge around eight years ago.
However, in 2018, Haley’s suit was dismissed after a judge ruled that Sledge had not adequately served one of the defendants with a summons.
The record shows prosecutors confirmed the officers had been part of a new anti-violence unit called SCORPION, which stands for Street Crimes Operation to Restore Peace in Our Neighborhoods.

What Are The Charges Faced By Demetrius Haley?
Following the Nicolas incident, the former officer was charged with second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of official misconduct, aggravated assault and one count of official oppression.
As per CNN, Second-degree murder in Tennessee is defined as a “knowing killing of another” and is considered a Class A felony punishable by between 15 to 60 years in prison.
On January 27, 2023, a video of the confrontation between Nichols, Bean, Smith, Martin, Mills and Haley was released.
In the video, the five former Memphis Police Department officers are scheduled for arraignment on February 17, 2023.
Reports from Police claim Nichols fled on foot during a traffic stop for reckless driving and that a “confrontation” happened when the officers tried to detain him.
In addition, Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn “C.J.” Davis revealed an investigation and review of available camera footage could not “substantiate” the reckless driving claim.
On January 20, 2923, Demetrius and four officers, Tadarrius Bean, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr. and Justin Smith, were fired following the administrative violation of department policy on the use of force.
