From red dragon fruit chips to wasabi kaki mochi and matcha coconut bites to Kona coffee butter, a new curated 250-item collection of foods including ready-to-eat snacks, drinks, dressings, marinades and more has launched at all of the Foodland and Sack N Save stores in Hawaii.

“We have always wanted to develop our own collection of products to share with our customers, but we didn’t want to settle for just the same old products with a different brand name; our goal was to discover products that would excite everyone here in Hawaii,” says Chairman and CEO Jenai S. Wall. “Our team searched for great items from here and around the world, and we’ve called them Maikai because every single one is excellent in its own way.”

If you’re a Foodland shopper, you already know the word maikai. You shop with your Maikai Card for great savings and rewards, and you enjoy Maikai Weekends with extra savings for family members in your household.

Maikai is a Hawaiian word meaning “excellent,” and now it extends to Foodland’s exciting new line of product offerings for customers.

Come to Maui locations and grab a ready-for-marinating jar of peppery Sriracha Roasted Garlic BBQ Sauce to kick up the flavor of those beef short ribs you’re bringing to the next party. Or pick up an inspired sweet and savory snack such as the new Toasted Chocolate Coconut Bites.

Shop for some Coconutty Cashews and Red Dragon Fruit Chips for an afternoon at the beach with friends or if you are just hanging out at home. And how about picking out a bag of ready-to-grind Hand Cut Salt and Pepper Potato Chips just because you’re, like, hungry right now?

“Take a second and imagine all of the above waiting for you, discovered and curated by a longtime locally owned Hawaii grocery retailer you know and trust, long known for its appreciation of food, family, friends and aloha. Intrigued? We thought so,” says Wall of the new launch.

Maikai features fun, gratifying and ono go-to and locally loved snacks for immediate eating; inspired ingredients for quick anytime-of-day meals; and edibles you don’t know or crave just yet but will, under one brand.

“We tasted literally hundreds of foods — sauces and salsas, snacks, dips, beverages and more — focusing on the right combination of ingredients and flavors to appeal to our customers,” says Corporate Chef Keoni Chang, one of the lead curators of the Maikai product line. “Sometimes we made adjustments to the product until it was just right for Hawaii — like when we turned up the heat on roasted wasabi peas so they’d be spicy like we like them here in the state.”
